We Bought A board game A Few months ago while it was getaway in Victoria: a bilingual French / Français TABOO! Nice party games to come!
Taboo The first meeting was memorable and so rooted in the linguistic context of Canada. It was Four: a French woman (moi!), an Ethiopian (Yared), a Filipino (Cholo) and a Canadian (Samson). So two bilingual English-French and two English, one with English as a second language. Question team, we mixed all this background and skills and we started the hostilities. It was hilarious and not easy as: The first game Taboo Was a memorable one and so let's say linguistically Canadian! There Were The Four of Us: a Frenchwoman (me!) Ethiopian year (Yared), a Filipino (Cholo) and a Canadian (Samson). So Two bilingual French / Français Français-and Two speakers, With Only One Whom Français IS Actually The Mother Tongue ... We mixed up language skills and Origins And We Let the party begin! It Was not easy and hilarious at All Because :
- Yaredo, based on words, chose to speak either French or English. Not in his team, I umpire because I was the only one to understand both languages. And knowing he has an unfortunate tendency to cheating / bad faith / deceit (delete as appropriate-no!), My role required a concentration of each moment and a special touch. Yared thing to speak French or Français regarding The words to guess. As I wasn't On The Same Team, I Was The Only One Who Could Judge Because I Can Understand Both languages. I Was in a very tough situation Knowing The Fact That Yared has a Tendency to cheat so I Had to Be Concentrated very well and prevented him from cheating too much!
- when you do not know the word in English and we were able Joker ... How we do huh? Ben is trying somehow to make sense of that word by looking at the words witnesses not to speak ... In that game, we all struggled except Samson, only English speaking band, foot range and ultra-brite smile ...
When You Do not Know The Word in you and when to Français cannot pass anymore ... Then how do you do? Well, you try to Guess the word by making up at least The Meaning With help of the "forgiven words" on your card ... We all Had a Time with translation difficulties to Samson, The Only Français-first-language pal, so relaxed and smiley All The Time ...
- but what do you do when you find the word but we do not know how to translate it into English? No time for a dictionary, Taboo, the hourglass leaves no respite. Lost in Transal, out of fuel, more words on the clock. Yaredo winner is still out as if to say the word in French and it was good, the word was short (it was not l'inquisition non plus!) Pour les autres (moi et Cholo le Philippin), ça a été un gros moment de solitude...
But what if you understand the word but don't know how to translate it into English? No time to look up in a dictionary! So what? Lost in translation, big blackout, no words coming out... Once more, Yared was the lucky one in the group since he said the word in French and if he was right, he could score. For the unlucky ones (Cholo and me!) we felt let behind so many times...
We Had Another party game this goal Recently Français Time with only ... Samson WAS up to it again, Say That I Can Actually he's Becoming addicted to the game ... He'd like to compete Every week (yes I Said compete ...)
This time it was girls against guys: Cristina's Italian and the French Cilou Yaredo against the Ethiopian and Canadian Samson .
Here the Team: Against girlz guyz! Cristina from Italy from France + Cilou Against Yaredo from Ethiopia and Samson from Canada!
The match was very tight (the girls won with 1 point ahead YEAH!) And animated (Yaredo, stop choosing your words, you take one card suivanteuhhh name a pipe!) has had its share of surprises (but what's a wrench? a measles?) We learned many new words, translated in 3 languages (Allora in italiano ... and French, they say ...) but then, so what do we laughed! to tears at times and it's always very difficult to stop ...
What a game! Girls Scored With only one point ahead, have cheated walways Yared (Do not Pick Up the words you want, Take the next line it for God's sake!) Surprising game (Could anyone tells me what a "wrench" is? Gold " We Have Learned measles "??*) a bunch of new words in Three different languages (in italiano ... Allora and weekends in French say ...) goal, Above All, We had a good laugh!
Nothing better than a lot of Taboo in the classroom or with friends to learn the vocabulary (I advise teachers to select cards or - better-to make) and practice your English, French, Italian, Navajo whatever!

I am very interested in bilingualism and one day, I promise, I'll post more on this serious issue because it is a subject that fascinates me. I feel I'll make a lot of experiences with my children and see them with the fantastic powers of the human brain! Long live the language! Each language is a new window that opens to the world (I will even say the worlds as our world is diverse and conditionnné by our thoughts) dans lequel nous évoluons alors apprenez à parler une autre langue, le breton ou l'occitan, l'anglais ou l'espagnol, celle qui vous chante, celle qui vous fait vibrer et surtout amusez-vous en VO !

I am very interested in bilinguism and I promised that I will post something more serious about it some day. I'm eager to make lots of experiments with my future kids and find out more about the amazing brain faculties with languages! I love languages! Each language is like a new window opened to the world. I could even say our worlds because a language influences the way we think so the way we see and understand the world we live in. Curious by nature ? Learn a language, the one you like, English, Irish or Mandarin, it does not matter ... learn it and Have fun with it!
* To not die silly "wrench" is a translation of a "wrench" (so no key Français guys!) And "measles" is more commonly known by the name "chicken pox".
